The beginning of Term 2 is always a busy and exciting time for ACG Strathallan, and last week was no exception. Our students certainly made the most of their return to the classroom, participating in events ranging from debating competitions and costumed book days to sporting contests and interschool rugby games.

We were delighted to see the winning streak of our Senior debating team continue as they enjoyed another victory in the Auckland Secondary School competition. Plus, Counties Zone Orienteering saw some brilliant performances from the Strathallan contingent, including our Year 8 girls’ team finishing on top of the podium and taking the gold medal in their division.

The wide range of activities continued across the week with numerous highlights and success stories showcasing our irrepressible school spirit.

  • On Wednesday, students from our Cambridge IGCSE Business and Economics classes visited the Villa Maria Estate winery to learn about production and marketing, sustainability and the wine industry’s stake in the New Zealand economy.
  • Thursday was a bright and colourful occasion as we celebrated our first-ever book day. There were incredible costumes on display as students and teachers alike dressed as characters from their favourite books and comics.
  • Meanwhile, Friday had more of a sporting focus with the school’s cross-country event. Eager participants were ready to show their athletic prowess around the challenging course while earning points for their Houses. With some nail-biting finishes, congratulations are not only due to the winners of their respective races but to everybody who took part.
  • And in keeping with the sports theme, our First XV rugby team also played their first game of the year on Saturday. With Strathallan spectators providing enthusiastic support from the side-line, the team are looking forward to a successful season ahead.
