At ACG Strathallan Primary, education is about sparking curiosity, nurturing confidence, and building strong foundations for lifelong learning. Every lesson, space, and experience is designed to help children discover their strengths and reach their full potential.

Our school stands out for its commitment to specialist teaching, world-class facilities, and the Cambridge Curriculum, which together offer a learning journey that is both structured and inspiring. In 2025, we proudly transitioned to a fully Cambridge-based curriculum from Year 0 to Year 6 - ensuring a consistent, high-quality framework across all subjects.

Previously, Cambridge was taught in English, Mathematics, and Science, with other areas guided by the New Zealand Curriculum. Now, every subject - from Humanities and Digital Technology to the Arts and Languages - is delivered through the Cambridge lens. This brings clarity, measurable outcomes, and a seamless pathway from Primary through to College.

“The Cambridge Curriculum gives children a clear sense of purpose from their very first day of school. It sets out exactly what they need to know and do at each stage, while still allowing for creativity and joy in learning. You can see the confidence it builds - even our youngest learners take real pride in their progress.”

A Framework for Success

The Cambridge Curriculum is globally recognised for its academic rigour and clear progression. Each subject is built on carefully sequenced skills, encouraging students to think critically, solve problems, and connect ideas.

In a time when national literacy rates are under pressure, Cambridge offers reassurance to families who value clarity, consistency, and accountability. Every learning goal is explicit, and assessment is ongoing - helping teachers to identify and address learning needs early.

At ACG Strathallan, this structure empowers children to take ownership of their learning. They understand what they’re working toward, can track their progress, and gain the satisfaction of mastering new challenges.

Learning from Specialists

From Year 4 to 6, our students experience a unique teaching model that mirrors the strengths of secondary education while keeping the warmth of a primary environment. Class teachers lead English and Mathematics while semi-specialising in their passion areas. This means students learn subjects such as Art, Spanish, Digital Technology & Coding, Social Science, and Science from teachers who are true subject experts.

All year levels also enjoy lessons with specialist teachers in Music & Performing Arts, P.E. and Health, and Mandarin, ensuring continuity and depth across the curriculum.

This model doesn’t just broaden students’ horizons - it elevates the quality of teaching. When a teacher teaches what they love, lessons become dynamic, inquiry-based, and memorable.

“Children are naturally curious, and science gives them the perfect outlet to explore that curiosity. In our Primary Science Lab, they’re not just reading about how the world works - they’re experimenting, investigating, and drawing their own conclusions. It’s incredibly rewarding to see that spark of discovery take hold.”

Spaces That Inspire

Our specialist approach is supported by purpose-built facilities that give students authentic, hands-on learning experiences. In our dedicated science lab, children conduct real experiments; in the art studio, they explore colour, texture, and form; in performance spaces, they build confidence through music, drama, and public speaking.

Digital learning suites are equipped with modern tools for coding, robotics, and design, while outdoor areas provide room for play, sport, and discovery. Each environment has been intentionally designed to make learning active, engaging, and enjoyable.

“Art opens doors to imagination. Our art studio is filled with colour, texture, and possibility - and it’s a privilege to see children express their ideas so boldly. When they learn that there’s no single ‘right answer’ in art, they begin to take creative risks that flow through to every other subject.”
- Caroline Fisher, Senior Art Teacher

Growing Through Sport and Wellbeing

Physical Education plays a vital role in developing the whole child. Through structured sport and daily activity, our students learn teamwork, perseverance, and self-belief. They are encouraged to try new sports, set goals, and celebrate improvement - not just results.

Whether participating in house events, team games, or fitness sessions, every student experiences the joy and challenge of being active.

“Sport is a powerful teacher in itself. Through movement, play, and competition, our students learn resilience, teamwork, and self-belief. We want every child to find something active they love - whether that’s on the field, in the gymnasium or during our fitness sessions - and to understand that physical wellbeing supports every other part of their learning.”
- Sean Dean, Primary P.E. and Sport Co-ordinator

A Culture of Care and Aspiration

Academic strength at Strathallan goes hand in hand with pastoral care. Close teacher–student relationships mean that learning is highly individualised. Teachers know each child’s interests, learning style, and goals, creating a culture where every student feels supported to achieve their personal best.

Our curriculum intentionally balances intellectual challenge with emotional and social development. Students are encouraged to question, collaborate, and lead - qualities that serve them well both inside and outside the classroom.

By the time they transition to College, Strathallan Primary graduates are confident, articulate, and ready to embrace the next stage of their Cambridge journey.
